Psychodynamic psychotherapy
Jaka Kovačič
Master of Psychosocial Counselling,
Specialist of psychodynamic psychotherapy
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is based on a relationship in which we bring conscious and unconscious communication, which has as its core a reflection of all therapeutic events from the background of transference, countertransference, defenses and resistances.
About me
As a professional, I hold a Master's degree in Psychosocial Counseling and a specialist of psychodynamic psychotherapy. I am trained in individual psychotherapy, couples therapy and sports counseling for proffesional athletes and recreationists. I have several years of experience in providing counseling for companies and organisations, as well as several years of experience in competitive sports.
Approach and method
The central part and main formation of psychodynamic psychotherapy is conscious and unconscious communication that takes place between the client and the psychotherapist. The premise of this modality is that we are affected and motivated by thoughts and feelings that are beyond our awareness. At its core, it has a reflection of the entire therapeutic happenings from the background of transference, countertransference, defenses and resistances. Psychotherapy is the place in this book where this can be explored.
Transference is a compromise between resistance and therapeutic research, which manifests itself as a repetitive but not entirely rigid pattern that combines the individual's conscious and unconscious impulses.
Defenses are psychological mechanisms that protect an individual's personality from the entry of unwanted or threatening psychic contents into consciousness.
Resistances are specific manifestations of the functioning of defense mechanisms that prevent an individual from establishing or maintaining conscious contact with such contents, and are often expressed as unconscious opposition to insight, especially in a therapeutic context.
The gathering point of the approach is resource-oriented psychoanalysis, which aims to help people change their habits of thinking and behavior on a deeper level.
This is done in a way that helps clients to learn about how their mind works and directly support their functioning in the context of a therapeutic relationship, since the central part of therapy is oriented around affects, emotions and attachment.

Individual therapy
Individual therapy is tailored to the individual, aimed at addressing personal areas that present challenges or even unresolved situations. It allows for a deep and authentic connection with oneself, and is often a necessary step in the process of self-improvement and self-actualization. The process is confidential and promotes integrity, acceptance, and safety, as it deals with the most intimate aspects of one's self.
Couples therapy
is intended for couples or individuals who wish to improve, maintain or change the quality of their relationship. The goal of couples counseling is to help couples understand and manage conflicts and improve communication, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. During the counseling sessions, couples will work with a therapist to identify negative patterns of behavior and communication and learn new ways to interact with each other. With the help of a therapist, couples can learn the skills they need to improve their relationship and create a stronger, more satisfying partnership.
Sports counseling
is a form of counseling that is intended for competitive athletes and recreational athletes who are facing challenges in this area. It addresses the psychological and emotional aspects of sports performance, and help athletes develop strategies to overcome mental barriers and improve their performance. This type of counseling can also help athletes cope with injuries, retirement, and other sport-related issues. It can also be used to help athletes improve their focus, motivation, and overall well-being. Overall, the goal of sports counseling is to help athletes improve their performance, build mental resilience, and achieve their full potential.
